Evacuate High-Value Assets feels very different after Update 1.007.100. The mission now pushes enemy waves toward the objective at a faster pace, reducing the downtime from 60 seconds to 42 seconds. That change gives squads less time to recover after a difficult attack and makes defensive mistakes much harder to correct.
If you already spend time collecting Helldivers 2 Items and experimenting with different builds, this mission is a good place to see which equipment actually performs when enemies keep coming. The strongest setup is not necessarily the one with the biggest damage numbers. What matters more is whether the squad can keep controlling the battlefield when one wave ends and another begins almost immediately.
Make Every Second Before the First Wave Count
The opening setup period should be treated as part of the mission rather than empty downtime.
Your team has roughly 90 seconds before the first wave starts. Instead of triggering the terminal early, use the full window to call down weapons, supplies, and defensive Stratagems.
This is also a good moment to decide who will cover each side of the defense. Players should know which routes they are watching and where they will fall back if the first gate becomes unsafe.
Having that plan before combat begins prevents unnecessary movement once enemies arrive. With only 42 seconds between waves, there may not be enough time to stop and discuss what to do next.
Turn Gates Into Controlled Choke Points
The gates are powerful because they limit how enemies approach the objective. However, they become much less useful if the squad stays in front of a doomed gate until the last second.
A better approach is to treat each gate as one layer of the defense. When enemy numbers become too high, fall back through the next position and close the door behind you.
This forces enemies to follow a narrower route. Your squad can then place area-denial tools around that route and concentrate fire on the enemies moving through it.
The timing of the retreat is important. Leaving too early wastes a useful defensive position, while leaving too late can result in players getting surrounded. Watch the condition of the defenses and the number of heavy enemies approaching rather than waiting for a specific scripted moment.
Why Mortars Become So Valuable
The faster waves make high-uptime Stratagems especially useful. Mortar Sentries can keep dealing damage while players handle targets that require direct attention.
An EMS Mortar Sentry is particularly useful for slowing enemies inside a choke point. That extra time allows other defensive tools to hit more targets before they reach the gate.
Regular Mortar Sentries can add explosive damage from behind cover. They should be positioned where they are less likely to be destroyed immediately by enemies reaching the frontline.
Autocannon and Rocket Sentries can complement mortars by dealing with larger threats. Whenever possible, give these sentries clear sightlines toward the main enemy routes while keeping them protected from unnecessary direct attacks.
Control the Routes Instead of Chasing Enemies
One common mistake during defense missions is chasing enemies after they leave the main route. That can pull players away from the objective and create openings somewhere else.
The better strategy is to make enemies come to you.
Gas Strikes and Tesla Towers can be especially effective because the enemy paths are predictable. A Gas Strike placed near a broken gate can damage groups as they funnel through. A Tesla Tower can provide additional control around a route that smaller enemies repeatedly use.
This approach also makes the squad's positioning easier. Players can focus on a few important areas instead of constantly running across the entire map.
Keep Anti-Armor Options Available
The short breaks between waves should be used to prepare for the next attack rather than simply recovering ammunition.
Quasar Cannons and EAT-17s are useful because they give the squad dependable answers to armored targets. EATs can be called down repeatedly and shared between players when the team expects another heavy wave.
A squad should also avoid wasting anti-armor ammunition on targets that another weapon can handle. Save the strongest options for enemies that can seriously damage the defensive structure or force players away from their positions.
This becomes increasingly important as the maximum wave count increases and heavy enemies begin appearing more frequently.
Deal With Elites Before They Become a Crisis
Automaton missions require special attention to Factory Striders. If one reaches the courtyard, its weapons can threaten the defense without needing to stand directly at the gate.
An Autocannon or heavy sentry can help remove dangerous components before the squad focuses on finishing the unit.
Against Terminids, Bile Titans require similar attention. Anti-armor weapons should be ready before they reach the defensive area, while an HMG Emplacement can provide sustained fire against vulnerable sections when positioned safely.
The basic rule is simple: eliminate the enemy that has the greatest potential to destroy your defensive plan, not necessarily the enemy that is closest to you.
Keep the Squad Moving as One Unit
The new wave timing rewards communication more than individual hero plays. One player rushing into a crowd may get a few kills, but losing that player can leave the rest of the squad without enough firepower for the next wave.
Stay close enough to reinforce a weak position while maintaining enough spacing to avoid losing everyone to one attack. When a gate becomes unsafe, retreat together and close it behind you.
Players who want to prepare their equipment ahead of difficult defenses may also find Helldivers 2 Weapons for sale useful when comparing available loadout options. The important thing is to build around consistency and battlefield control instead of relying on a single powerful Stratagem.
